Nikki Haley’s questioner in NH was right to ask her the basic question, “What was the cause of the Civil War?” Here are some other questions I would like to suggest for candidates, and especially for Donald Trump:
Why did America go to war in 1918 and do you think it was the right decision?
Do you think the First Amendment should protect atheists and agnostics too?
Do you think poor people should have as much right to vote as people with money? How would you define ‘poor’?”
Was the Spanish American war a just one?
Is America a Christian nation? If not, should it be?
It’s good to see you still have fire in your belly!

Yes, and same to you, Frank!

By the way, like most questions, candidates will use talking points to dance around the question and not answer it.

Life is full of tough questions that don’t have simple answers.

I see asking these questions as a test not just of a candidates’ knowledge but of character and political acumen.

With those history questions, he wouldn’t even know what you’re talking about. Atheists and agnostics are probably some of the vermin he referenced and certainly not protected by the Constitution or entitled to vote (but I will anyway).
